More Funding Coming to Detroit Green Spaces

More Funding Coming to Detroit Green Spaces: "Governor Rick Snyder signed a bill this week approving $102 million in grants to the Natural Resources Trust Fund. Close to $35 million from that grant will go to William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor, Detroit Riverwalk and the Dequindre Cut. The following acquisition projects were recommended for funding:

  • $20 million would be used to acquire three to six large private inholding parcels and trail easements along the Detroit Riverfront as additions to the William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor.
  • $9 million would be used by the DNRE to acquire 48,000 square feet of built-out space in the
    Globe Building for the William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor Adventure and Discovery
    Center in downtown Detroit.
  • $5 million would be used by the DNRE to acquire public use easements and land acquisitions along the
    Detroit River from the Ambassador Bridge to the MacArthur Bridge as part of a 5-mile-long
    public greenway.
  • $375,000 would be used to acquire a 0.7-mile section of abandoned rail corridor in downtown Detroit that continues the Dequindre Cut north, connecting the Detroit Riverfront to the historic Eastern Market.

Community Architecture Lab has introduced a biodegradable, flat-pack coffee table made of bamboo with all of the modern appeal of the iconic Noguchi table. The table is easy to assemble and saves fuel and energy by shipping flat instead of in a huge box. CAL recently unveiled the green table on KICKSTARTER to raise money to support its education program, which teaches kids the fundamentals of math, physics, structural engineering and carpentry by building large and small-scale structures.

Google Cloud Print Ready printers now available

Google Cloud Print Ready printers now available: "Imagine printing an important email from your Chrome notebook on your train ride to work, then finding the completed printout in the printer tray when you reach the office. Or printing your airline boarding pass from your smartphone to your home printer, so you can grab the printout on your way out the door. Today, we are one big step closer to this vision.

Last year, we launched Google Cloud Print, a service that enables users to print from any device, operating system, or browser to any printer without the need for drivers or a PC connection. The service can be used with any printer, but the most seamless experience is offered by Google Cloud Print Ready devices, a new generation of web-connected printers that don’t need to be attached to a computer. Today, HP has announced that all of its ePrint-enabled printers are Google Cloud Print Ready, in most cases right out of the box. With a Google Cloud Print Ready printer, you can print emails, documents and web pages from supported apps without having to hunt for drivers or printer cables.

You can already use Google Cloud Print on Chrome notebooks and in the mobile versions of Gmail and Google Docs. Many more supported apps are on the way. There are also a third-party Android app, Chrome extension and Firefox add-on to help you use Google Cloud Print in more places.

We’re also continuing to release enhancements to the Google Cloud Print service. We’ve released a Mac version of the Google Cloud Print connector for non-cloud printers in the Chrome beta channel. And over the next few days we’ll be enabling printer sharing for current Google Cloud Print users, so your family, friends and colleagues can print their documents from anywhere to anywhere.

Happy printing!

Blogger Views

Blogger Views: "Blogger added five dynamic templates that transform blogs into interactive apps. Just add /view to the URL of a blog that offers full feeds (for example: googlesystem.blogspot.com/view) and you'll be able to try the new views: flipcard, mosaic, sidebar, snapshot and timeline. Blogger's templates offer features like infinite scrolling, progressive image loading, smart search, filtering posts by date, author or label. 'These new views use the latest in web technology, including AJAX, HTML5 and CSS3,' explains Google.

In the near future, bloggers will be able to customize the templates and use them without having to change the URL.
